Qalam Educational and Technical Center, popularly known as QETC, marked its 1st aniversary with the launching of QETC Annual Scholarship Package for Somaliland youths on March 4th 2019 at Hargeisa Gateway Hotel in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland.

'We're marking our 1st anniversary with this historical event. Providing annual scholarship package for the youths is just one of our ways of giving back to the community and contributing to the United Nation's SDG 16,' said Mutiu Olawuyi, the Executive Director of QETC.

Olawuyi felicitated with the 110 benefiaries of the 2019 scholarship award package and implored them to utilize the opportunities provided for them by QETC.

Faadumo Sead, one of the first beneciaries of girl child education in Somalia/Somaliland who graced the ocassion lectured the audience about the importance of English language and communication in the global world, and admonished the beneficiaries of the scholarship awards to utilise the opportunities offered to them by the institute.

'Your education is incomplete without proper mastery of the language of the global world; I mean English language,' added Faadumo Saed.

Another prominent speaker at the ocassion, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge Liibaan advised students to shun plagiarism in any of their given academic writing tasks in school.

'Our academic societies nowadays are seriously faced with the problem of "Copy and Paste" syndrome due to the fact that most Somali youths are very weak in the use of English language both for academic and career purposes. It is important to note here that plagiarism won't take you anywhere as it is a cancaworn that is capable of destroying your future. So I strongly advise you to shun it. Learn to be original and creative in whatever you do in life,' said Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge Libaan. 

Yahye Hanas, the Executive Director of Somaliland Journalists Association (SOLJA) commended the management of QETC for initiating this historical mass literacy program for the populace, and encouraged the community to give the institute full support that could aid her to make this initiative long lasting.
