Pandit Vishnu Sukul Way
By Sheikh Musa Drammeh
Bronx, New York (10/27/2019) ---Yesterday was as beautiful as it was Historic in the Bronx. Community members from all walks of life joined the Guyanese community of New York including the Guyana’s Counsel General for the unveiling of the first Street Co-naming of a Hindu Priest in New York City. Those of us who knew Pandit Sukul are not only excited about this historic milestone, but we are not surprised. Most immigrants fight to achieve the ‘American Dream’, Pandit Vishnu Sukul used his hard earned and limited resources to build a spiritual community for the next generation of Hindu disciples, as well as using his leadership role in building interfaith relations. Pandit Sukul was quite, judicious, handsome and full of wisdom. He was a healer, uniter, Bridge builder and peacemaker. He was a dutiful husband, loving father and a pioneering spiritual leader. He is someone I am honored to have known for over two decades and privileged to call a friend and a partner in inter religious services. My love for him did not die with him but rather multiplied by the number of his family whom I call my family. Thank you for showing us how to live and love. Your legacy lives on. Until we meet you there...
