During the dispute, another man was with the woman at the time, shot the child's father 25-year-old James Cubille in the stomach, he expired at the hospital.
The man fled from the station and ran north up the Grand Concourse. Police blocked all entrances to the subway on all corners.
Detectives were seen going up and down the stairs. Police say they'll be able to see how it all unfolded.
"This took place in the mezzanine right in front of the token booth, so we've got pretty good video, said NYPD Chief of Transit, Edward Delatorre. "We're downloading it now and once we have that video will be able to go further."
The MTA accommodated the NYPD's request to bypass the station while they investigated.
